Ultimate Edition is $20 for cosmetics and shop access. Are we fine with this?

Looked through what the $99.99 tier actually gets you: exclusive vehicles, weapons, apparel, and access to a couple of shops (Rideout Customs, Sara's Unisex Salon). None of that is story content. It is all stuff that would have been in the base game ten years ago. I pre-ordered the standard and I am not losing sleep over it, but the pattern is what bothers me. If the $20 upsell works this well on the biggest launch in history, that becomes the template for everything after it. Anyone want to argue the other side? Genuinely asking.

The other side is that $80 for the base game with nothing cut out is genuinely the whole game. The Ultimate stuff is a skin pack with extra steps. Ignore it and nothing bad happens to you.

Ultimate is topping the pre-order charts in nine PlayStation regions so this debate is already over commercially. We are arguing about the weather.

That argument works right up until the shop access turns out to matter in online. That is the part nobody can answer yet.

For context NBA 2K27 and EA FC 27 top editions are $149.99. Rockstar asking $99.99 is somehow the restrained option, which tells you where the industry went.
